2017 Year Review

2017 Year Review Poole Christian Fellowship

2017 has been a year to remember at Poole Christian Fellowship. We have so much to be thankful for so let’s look back at some of the things God has done through us.

January – March

We kicked off the year with Cafe Church on the 1st of January, followed by a Week of Prayer which led to the weekly Prayer Diary feature in the bulletin. Steven was promoted to Children & Youth Minister and he published a Family Resources magazine. The PCF Operations team was formed to oversee some of the Church activities, lightening the Elders’ loads a little.

The first few talks of the year were on our mission statement then the #lovechurch series on Ephesians started in February. The CAP Life Skills course and a Curry Night also occurred in February. In March, John began his 3-month Sabbatical which featured a 5-day Silent Retreat!

April – June

While the Pastor was away…we had our annual Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Service where around 70 adults and over 100 children heard the gospel. The 6th instalment of the Parenting Course kicked off along with another CAP Life Skills course.

The Church Weekend Away 2018 was announced with this exciting video. Helen and Steve attended a training session for ChurchSuite (formerly ChurchApp) and some Church partners went to the EMA leadership conference.

July – September

John returned from his sabbatical and started the Summer Psalms sermon series. We had a fabulous Family Fun Afternoon with lots of cake and some of us went camping at New Wine.  August featured ‘Open House Wednesdays’ – a relaxed time of fellowship with the church family as small groups came to end for the summer. Pudding, Praise and … became the new midweek programme from September. In this month, Prayer By Text was relaunched and we held a Harvest Service where the Church was asked to bring items for donation to Poole Food Bank.

October – December

The PCF book of the month feature was launched for a 3 month trial. We baptised a few of our church family and we had our annual Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Celebration Sunday. John gave a talk on the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The PCF clothes store had their first meeting where parents in the church family could gift or receive some invaluable items for their little one(s). Pete attended the 10,000 Fathers worship trainingWe had a triple dose of the Macs in November, as John led the service where his grandson was dedicated, and his son, Matt, spoke on Genesis .

John also had an interesting opportunity to share the gospel – it involved acting! The #lovechurch series was concluded by Sam Harris. With Richard moving on to new pastures, we were looking to recruit a CAP Debt Centre Manager. The traditional CAP Christmas Hamper announcement started quite early this year and the response was amazing. Christmas at PCF continued with a Youth-led Christmas Celebration featuring the annual Christmas Jumper competition and  a Christmas morning service with lots of mince pies. And finally, the new midweek series for 2018, Streams, was announced.

Also in the Year…

Church Life

A yearly round-up would not be completely without mentioning the variety of regular activities and projects hosted or facilitated by PCF such as the CAP drop-in centre, visits to Dorset house, monthly Church Prayer and Friday Night Youth Clubs.

Goodbyes

In January, Grace Castle and Malcolm Lamb both went to be with the Lord. Grace first came to PCF through helping at the parent & toddler group in the late 90s and later came to faith, touching many of us with her positive and appreciate manner. Malcolm was with PCF from the beginning, first as an Elder, then as a faithful support to the Elders, a stalwart in prayer, a personal encouragement to many and the very heart of PCF.

Worship

The following new songs were introduced by the Worship Team:

You can also find a selection of our current song list in this YouTube playlist.

Food

We have a lot of talent bakers and cooks in our Church family (and a lot of food lovers too). Below are a few of the offerings we have been blessed with on Sunday mornings and events such as the Family Fun Afternoon.

And Finally

We would like to thank everyone that has been involved with PCF in some way during 2017 and a special thank you to the many volunteers who work behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly. There are lots to look forward to in 2018: Week of Prayer, Streams, Pub Quiz, Steve Fry’s visit, Weekend Away to name a few.  We can’t wait to see what God has in store for us in 2018 as we continue our mission of “Knowing Jesus… and Making Him Known”.
